About Tokusetsu Kusentei

The IJN called converted sub-chasers "Tokusetsu Kusentei". Their main task was to sweep submarines and to observe booms, and secondarily to patrol. Two hundred sixty six ships were used as Tokusetsu-kusentei between 1937 and 1945. "Yurin Maru" was removed from service before the outbreak of the Pacific War.
