About Tokusetsu Sokaitei

The IJN called converted mineswepers "Tokusetsu Sokaitei". Their main task was to sweep mines and secondarily task was to sweep submarines and to patrol. One hundred twenty ships were used as Tokusetsu-sokaitei between 1937 and 1945. "Yuki Maru" and "Hakata Maru No.1" were lost in 1937 and 1938 respectively. "Teshio Maru", "Yawata Maru", "Mamiya Maru", "Hakata Maru No.2", "Hakata Maru No.3", "Choyo Maru No.3" and "Choyo Maru No.5" were removed from the navy list before the outbreak of the Pacific War.
